The International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation introduces its newest educational resource that teaches kids ages 9 – 12 years and their parents about living healthful lifestyles. With more than 45,000 copies of the original Kidnetic.com Leader’s Guide now in circulation, Kidnetic.com resources have become an established national brand in the effort to prevent childhood obesity. The new and improved edition is updated to include MyPyramid for Kids and nutrition recommendations based on the
2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Responding to feedback from evaluation in 35 different settings representing after-school, parks and recreation, and summer camp programs, the new Leader’s Guide now features:
- More hands-on activities to reinforce what kids learn about healthful eating and physical activity habits
- Easy-to-make suggestions for healthful snacks to be provided at each meeting
- An energizing activity to get kids up and moving at the beginning of every lesson
- Ideas and activities to encourage parental involvement and to get the entire family involved
A panel of science advisors and each of five organizations that form the ACTIVATE partnership with the IFIC Foundation reviews all Kidnetic.com resources for scientific accuracy. The organizations involved in the ACTIVATE partnership are: the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Sports Medicine, American Dietetic Association, the International Life Sciences Institute Research Foundation/Center for Health Promotion, and the National Recreation and Park Association.
